So I guess the big news is about the Superbowl last night for everyone. We went to a Superbowl party for the first time, and although I wasn’t that interested in the actual game, the food was super yummy, I got the buffalo wings I have been craving for weeks!
Backing up just a little bit… My legs were really, really tired by the time I got home from the race. I had a bath and got changed, and pulled my compression socks out of the sock basket. I have no idea if compression socks help me run faster, I generally just save them to wear after a long/hard run. They feel like hugs for my legs! I have 2 pairs of RunLove socks, from Running Skirts:
I have the pink ones on the left, and a cute black and white stripey pair, that right now I can only find one of. The other one is on my growing list of “things I hope to find when we move house”. Anyway, the socks made me legs feel a whole lot better, and I’m sure everyone at the party appreciated my bright pink feet!
More compression socks are always on my wish list, but I have a hard time justifying huge amounts of $$$ for….socks. No matter how happy they make my legs feel. Maybe I will drop hints when my birthday rolls around over the Summer!
The kids and I agreed on our favorite commercial: The Skechers ad was really cute. Man vs leopard. We liked the wink and fist bump with the Antelope at the end.

My 9 mile long run on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s hilly 4 mile race meant I was ridiculously happy to have a rest day today. My planned mileage for the week is 33 miles, with a 10 mile long run on Saturday. I am trying to decide between two different routes for my long run; a nearly out & back (just a little loop at the far end), or a double loop that stays closer to home. I have been doing different variations of the double loop for a few weeks now, and I’m starting to get a bit bored. However, I feel like the out & back takes me such a long way from home, and psychologically I find that hard. I start with all the “what ifs” of what could go wrong, which my rational head tells me is totally ridiculous. I think I’ll wait and see what the weather is like, if it’s nice then I will take the out & back route. As a bonus, I get to run past our new house if I go that route!
How do you recover from a hard run or workout? Favorite Superbowl ad?

I like out and back routes. They make me feel like I went somewhere
Compression socks are a must-have in my recovery. So are hot epsom salt baths (usually the day after as recommended but I have been known to jump right into a hot bath after a long cold run even though no one recommends it except for me).

Getting too far from home makes me nervous, too. My favorite 10 miler is to our state park and back because about 3 miles of that is in the park and I’m never far from home or the park. Also, it’s not a full out and back because I run through the campgrounds.
I didn’t watch the SB or eat any good food. Darn.
